As you have heard through the media, the Federal Cannabis Act enacted on October 17, 2018 permits Canadians to purchase, grow and possess cannabis and related products for recreational purposes. In British Columbia the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act and Cannabis Distribution Act will regulate how cannabis may be sold, distributed and consumed in B.C. This legislation contains significant restrictions aimed at preventing access to cannabis by minors under age 19.
SD51 will continue to prohibit the possession, consumption, purchase and sale of cannabis by anyone on school property. Any violations will be dealt with as required through District and School Codes of Conduct and/or involvement with the police.
Things You Need to Know About Cannabis:
- It is illegal for anyone under 19.
- It is prohibited for everyone, in all forms, on all SD 51 properties.
- It is unacceptable to be impaired on school property.
All staff of SD51 are responsible for creating a safe and effective learning environment for our K-12 learners. As a District we will continue our focus on educating our students on healthy life choices.
