Happy New Year and all the best to our learning community in 2020. As we move into our next decade, I am very excited to watch the continued transformation of our education system. As of September 2019, we saw the final stage of a five year implementation of the ‘new’ BC curriculum to include grades 11 & 12. Despite BC’s long-standing, international recognition as a leader in education, our curriculum has been updated (https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/) to prepare students for a rapidly changing future and to be more inclusive.
Curriculum is important as it provides a roadmap of the learning standards for K-12 students, but even more important is the relationships fostered by staff on a daily basis. In School District 51 (Boundary) we have teachers, educational assistants and principals that embrace relationships as a key component to fostering a positive and welcoming learning environment. The work of our educators is complimented by the kindness and hard work of our secretaries, bus drivers, custodians, operations and technology staff who also help to make our schools safe and inviting.
In SD 51 our aspiration is that all students will experience rich learning opportunities and reach their greatest potential. We want our students to feel important and supported; to become reflective learners able to identify their strengths and stretches.
As we move into the next decade, we are pleased to share with you our new website. We hope it will provide useful information in a timely manner and should you have suggestions, please consider sending us an email through the Contact Us feature.
It is my honor and privilege to work in partnership with our staff, trustees, students and community to support the education of our SD51 children.
